What holes do the teams with the Top Ten picks in the 2010 NFL Draft need to fill?

Inadequacies

It is that time when teams look to build future powerhouses in the search for the golden rings, hoping to pick potential Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers in the NFL Draft. Here is a look at team needs, numbers one through ten.

  1. St. Louis Rams

Coach Stave Spagnuolo came from the Giants with a defensive mind but struggled with the Rams. He now wants to add points to help that defense. Look for the Rams to take a high impact defensive player or trade for one with their first pick. They may work with what they have at the quarterback position.

  2. Detroit Lions

The Motor City needs a piston, and their new line production struggled on offense last season. Many needs could be met but QB is not one of them. Matt Stafford was a mental leader. Developing an offense would allow Stafford to control the clock. A guard would help the offensive line–there is quality available early.

Tiger Woods is back: the good, the bad and the ugly.

Welcome Back Tiger

Tiger Woods returned to the golf world last weekend in pursuit of a fifth green jacket after an extended self-imposed penance for being as prolific a man-whore as he is golfer.

His return engendered what can accurately be called a major hard-on in the punditocracy. Everybody had–still has–an opinion and of course only the person rendering the opinion is correct.

Evidently they haven’t seen any of mine:

Homeless South L.A. student athlete Tyki Nelworth receives a scholarship to West Point.

A True Role Model

I saw this story on the news a couple days ago and thought it was the most touching piece I had seen in quite some time. It’s not a sports story, persay, but since the young man in question, Tyki Nelworth, is the captain of his high school football team and also plays baseball, I thought it was worthy of inclusion in Sports Bright:

The Big Ben Roethlisberger rape accusation–what should the Pittsburgh Steelers do?

Big Ben Strikes Two

After a second public accusation of Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback “Big” Ben Roethlisberger committing sexual assault, he can’t bitch about the punditocracy almost in unison asking, “How can he keep putting himself in these positions?”

Given his well-honed judgment skills and basic intelligence quotient, Ben is probably asking, “What positions are they talking about? The ‘Reverse Cowgirl’? The ‘Chechen Wheelbarrow?’ Or the dreaded ‘Vampirella Piledriver’?” (You don’t want to know. Legend has it the act’s mere description can drain the readers’ blood.)

The Butler Bulldogs are no Final Four Cinderella. Here is a breakdown of just how they became a true mid-major basketball powerhouse.

How Have the Butler Bulldogs Built Themselves into a Final Four Team?

A few days ago, when addressing the Butler Bulldogs’ march to the Final Four, we analyzed what were the necessary steps for a mid-major basketball program to break through and become a nationally-recongized power.

But what of Butler? How did the Bulldogs match up to these rules? Were these indeed indicative of what the Horizon League school has accomplished in placing itself squarely on college basketball’s map.

Let’s take a look…
