Preview of the NFC South for the 2010 NFL season.

NFL 2010 Preview – NFC South

All you construction workers, bloggers, bakers, teachers, and bureaucrats–join me in taking a moment to think about your co-workers, family, and circle of friends…

Now ask yourself how many of those people have had trouble with the law to some degree–parking tickets, speeding, barroom brawls, drug abuse, domestic, or public violence.

In my own life’s circle, I’ve had a friend just finish a drunk driving program and a relative be kicked out of school for letting under-aged women drink at a frat party. Speeding and parking violations are seemingly daily occurrences. Getting caught with a roach in an ashtray or fighting in a bar, while less common, are not out of the ordinary.

Point being, our behavior creates the “societal norm”.

Forget Alex Rodriguez and his so-called 600 home runs, but don’t forget Ken Griffey Jr.

Don’t Forget Junior

With Mr. A-Roid A-Fraud having finally entered the *** asterisked 600 home run club, we should all take a time-out to recognize the genuine accomplishments not just of Aaron, Ruth and Mays, but of the one power hitter of the steroid era who achieved that rarified ground cleanly and with class: Ken Griffey, Jr.

What with the bloated numbers of and controversy surrounding so many of his brethren and the consequent diminishing value of the 600 home run plateau, Griffey’s 630 home runs seem to have been lost in the shuffle. That’s a shame, since Junior does deserve to be mentioned alongside that hallowed trio as only the fourth legitimate 600+ home run hitter.

Preview of the NFC West for the 2010 NFL season.

NFL 2010 Preview – NFC West

Thank god NFL football is back.

The whole A-roid watch sickens me. Waiting for an admitted cheater to reach a milestone he would never had reached without cheating is like waiting for a hooker to say I love you after admitting she’s a lady-boy.

Not that I would know.

Anyway, we better enjoy the upcoming 2010 season because a lockout looms large in March of 2011. I can’t fathom billionaires and millionaires ruining the greatest American sport over a relatively tiny percentage of a gargantuan pie, but Roger Goodell is in charge.

Goodell is the league’s head honcho who has not suspended players for kicking ass at 3:00 am in strip clubs or illegally possessing guns, yet did suspend Ben Roethlisberger–after he was completely exonerated of any criminal conduct–for potentially six games.

Dez Bryant Rookie Hazing – NFL Football

Dez Bryant was right to refuse Roy Williams’s equipment and rookie hazing.

Dez Bryant Belies His Reputation

Dez Bryant was right.

The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver has been much maligned for being cocky and immature by not agreeing to carry Roy Williams’s bags–a typical NFL rookie hazing stunt–but it was time for someone to take a stand against the BS practice of hazing rookies.

Hazing itself is immature; rejecting to subject oneself to it is not. It doesn’t matter whether it’s high school seniors to freshmen, fraternity brothers to pledges, or NFL veterans to rookies, hazing is a childish, often dangerous, sometimes even illegal practice that has no place in any of these venues.

Anyone who thinks this is a joke should check out the following list of sports hazing incidents:

Matt Garza throws a no-hitter for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Year of the Pitcher, Part 2 – MLB Baseball

And it continues…

Matt Garza has just completed the fifth no-hitter of the 2010 Major League Baseball campaign, the first in Tampa Bay Rays history–a team that has been no-hit three times themselves in the last two years, a rather surprising number considering how strong this team is.

Of course, as I watched this game, what really made it interesting was that it was a double no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings, when Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers gave up his first hit, a grand slam to Matt Joyce. Tough way to lose a no-hit bid.
