Nate Barlow (Editor-in-Chief)

Nate spent most of his childhood in Central Connecticut on the front lines of the Boston-New York rivalry, his hometown pretty much equidistant from the two cities.  The one interlude came in the form of a two-year stint in Tanzania, exposing the already manic sports fan to rugby, cricket and other European sports which he otherwise may never have played.  Although Nate follows almost everything, baseball is his first love.  His personal sports moments:

The Good: “The Impossible Goal”–a zero-angle shot from the corner along the goal-line consisting of a blind flick backwards through his legs that somehow found its way into the goal.

The Bad:  On the opening day of his softball league, Nate shredded both knees, both palms and several other places on his body when a sore knee collapsed as he legged out an inside-the-park home run.  Although he did score, Nate’s injuries kept him out for the rest of the season.

The Funny:  Led his local Little League in being hit by the pitch; was almost ejected from a wiffleball game for arguing a call.

Nate is currently an actor and filmmaker residing in Los Angeles.

Gary Porpora (Assistant Editor)

Gary writes for DIS under the pseudonym, “Gairzo” to distinguish that part of his warped psyche from the frighteningly disturbed part that ghostwrites novels, or the seriously deluded part that pens screenplays

Born and raised in the Pittsburgh suburb of Hopewell Township, Gary was the only son in an Italian-American family where arguing was considered an art form. His fondness for a good debate is exceeded only by his love of all things black and gold.

Gary bears several scars from a painful childhood sports career. His first nose break came after a face-first dive into the back end of a Tonka Toy dump truck at the age of eight. Follow–up fractures came as a result of deck hockey fights or sandlot football scuffles against bigger kids who didn’t seem particularly impressed with his argumentative skills.

Gary lives with his lovely wife Kathy in Los Angeles.

P.K. Brooks (Sports Writer)

P.K. is originally from the Philadelphia area and, despite this glaring character flaw, continues to root for his beloved Flyers and Eagles. He also attended West Virginia University and is thus lucky enough to count himself among three of the most-loathed and unruly fanbases in all of sports. Despite all this, he has never once thrown a battery at anyone during a sporting event.

Allan Gross (Sports Writer)

Allan Gross is a comic book author who has also written for television and the newspaper. His comic book “Cryptozoo Crew” was recently optioned by Alcon (an arm of Warner Bros.) for production as a major motion picture. Allan is also an avid long distance runner and triathlete who has completed 5 ironman triathlons. He’s looking forward to throwing in his two cents!

MP Olson (Sports Writer)

MP Olson continues to live and work on the frozen tundra of Minnesota on which he was born and raised. Savoring the 6 weeks of summer that comes each year, he spends his time enjoying the baseball and soccer games his sons play, fishing, treks to the BWCA, and an occasional Twins game. The rest of the year is spent helping others get over their suffering of pro sports in general. Not presently on the ‘Deep Into Sports’ payroll, his money comes from real estate and integrated web marketing for businesses. He’s also a long-time contributor to several e-zines and blogs ranging from politics to business development to commercial real estate to finance to sports. If he ever guesses a certain 6 numbers correctly, he’s probably going to trim it down to sports.
