Weekly Bay Area sports preview for 10/20/2016.
Weekly Bay Area Sports Preview
Nobody can dispute that the Bay Area is a great place to live. In addition to the beautiful weather, there are a plethora of great sports teams to watch on a daily basis. Sports fans in the Bay Area never have to go more than a day or two without an exciting game to keep them entertained. These are the biggest sporting events occurring in the Bay Area over the next few days.
The AFC West leading Oakland Raiders have to travel across the country to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday. While the Raiders are clearly the better football team, West Coast teams always seem to struggle when they have to travel to the Eastern Time Zone. Both teams have played close games nearly every week, so it is hard to judge the teams based on their record. The Raiders offense has only struggled when they faced a solid defense, and that is exactly what they will see against the Jaguars. This means the Raiders defense is going to need to make a few stops, especially against newly added running back Chris Ivory, if they want to leave Jacksonville with a victory. If the defense continues to struggle, then the Raiders may be handed their second straight loss.
San Francisco 49ers
Colin Kaepernick gets to try to lead the 49ers to their second win when they play a home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Injuries to the running backs may end up deciding this game. If Tampa Bay gets Doug Martin back, then they should have no problem running on the San Francisco defense. Carlos Hyde has been the most effective player for the 49ers, but it appears that he will be forced to miss the game with an injured shoulder. If the backup running backs do not perform, then the 49ers will have a hard time defeating the Buccaneers.
San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks have two games in the next few days when they go on the road to face the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings. The Sharks have gotten off to a fast start after making the Stanley Cup last season. It is rare to see a Stanley Cup rematch this early in the season, so hockey fans everywhere are going to be excited for the upcoming game with Pittsburgh. The Sharks’ potent offense gives them a great chance to defeat a Penguins team forced to play without Sidney Crosby. The Sharks and Red Wings have had a lot of great playoff matchups over the years, but they do not get the chance to face each other often after Detroit moved to the Eastern Conference. San Jose has a good chance to return home with a win over Detroit thanks to the Red Wings’ struggling defense.
