Who has the best chance of going to the Super Bowl?
3 NFL Teams With the Best Shot
With many NFL fans left feeling that last seasons end was rather anti-climatic, the upcoming season is looked forward to with eager anticipation. Will the Panthers recover from their disappointing Super Bowl showing? Can anyone compete with the Cardinals and Seahawks in the NFC? Many questions remain to be answered of course, but there are four teams that certainly appear to have an above average shot to still be playing come February.
1. New England Patriots – It seems to be a broken record putting the Patriots into the off-season Super Bowl mix, yet that is exactly where we find ourselves once again. While many Patriot fans are still lamenting the loss of Tom Brady for the first month of the season, reality is that they are still a stacked team. Consider this – the team was just a few snaps away from the Super Bowl last season. They have not lost a single player to free agency during the off-season. On top of that, some of their injured warriors will be back and itching for prime time, in particular left tackle Nate Solder and running back Dion Lewis. With an offense that averaged in the neighborhood of 40 points per game when healthy last season, and a defense that is quite respectable. Look for them to be right in the thick of the playoff race. Given Brady’s absence for the Patriots, they also benefit from a weaker than average division, giving them a bit of flexibility in the win/loss category.
2. Green Bay Packers – The Pack will be back. Of that, we are almost certain. Last year was an anomaly on the offensive side of the football, yet the Packers still found a way to nearly make it to the NFC Championship game. Only a crazy, down to the wire overtime loss to the Cardinals kept them from it. This season brings the return of wide receiver Jordy Nelson. The only hit to the team this offseason was losing Casey Hayward to the San Diego Chargers. Other than that, their stellar defense is in tact. They will have to overcome some fierce competition in the conference as a whole, but they should definitely be a Super Bowl contender.
3. Arizona Cardinals – The franchise has never won a Super Bowl, though they came agonizingly close against the Steelers a few years back. This might be their best chance to get back there. Carson Palmer admittedly had a tough postseason in 2015, but he is playing the best overall football of his life. With a core group of Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown, and Michael Floyd around him, the time is now for them to bring a trophy home to the Desert. In fact, their first week matchup with the Patriots is already being viewed as a preview of the Super Bowl in Houston come February. They have even used this off-season to plug one of the remaining holes in their already stifling defense with the signing of Chandler Jones. The stage is set for a run deep into the postseason.
There are certainly other teams with a legitimate shot at Super Bowl glory. Among the honorable mentions at this point are the Steelers and the Panthers. One thing is for sure; this season is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive and exciting in recent history.
