2015 NFL Season Week 14 – FootballSunday, December 13, 2015 9:30
NFL Week 14 picks and analysis.
WEEK FOURTEEN SUNDAY
WEEK FOURTEEN PICKS
LOCK OF THE WEEK
New England Patriots (10-2) @ Houston Texans (4-7) +3.5 [O]
My readers know where I stand on Bill Belichick, his cheating and his place in history. But…
Never, even in my most intense, righteous, tirades did I write that he was a bad football coach.
A vault of every NFL DC’s signals or underinflated footballs—and their impact measured to any degree critics want—doesn’t negate the man’s unique abilities to find players who immediately buy what he’s selling, defensively mute a given opponents best offensive weapon, and field a consistently disciplined and focused team.
Week 14 finds Darth Belichick and his Vadars facing a Texans squad who had won four consecutive games prior to last week’s dizzying lost to Buffalo.
One school of thought teaches this will be a close contest due to Belichick’s intimate knowledge of the former Patriots OC and current Shit-Kicker’s head honcho, Bill O’Brien—and O’Brien’s reciprocal football intimacy with Belichick.
I don’t attend any such school because the Patriots have lost two in a row—for only the seventh time since Brady’s debut. 213 games—about once every two seasons.
In that same span, the Pats have lost three consecutive games…Wait for it…Wait for it…ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Colts and the Steelers are tied for second with seven streaks of three or more losses. The league average, we can deduce must surely be in double digits.
Sure, the Pats’ injuries are starting to show on the field; they are vulnerable—but this is the tightest Lock we’ve picked in our six years as a prognosticator.
Give Houston it’s due—they have turned around what was shaping up to be a disaster of a season and, only a few weeks ago, O’Brien’s final one as their head coach, but they don ‘t have the horses to match New England.
We’re even more confident picking The Over

UPSET SPECIAL 6 – 5 – 1
Seattle Seahawks (7-5) @Baltimore Ravens (4-8) +12.5 42 [O]
Baltimore, at first blush, looks like a bad football team, until due diligent research reveals the Crows worst loss was to the 10-2 Cardinals by eight points. In fact, none of their games in 2015, besides the loss in Arizona, has been decided by more than six points.
The Ravens under GM Ozzie Newsom and HC, John Harbaugh have the look of the 2012-2013 Steelers: rebuilding an old, exhausted defense, refining the offensive line, and making due with injuries and departures of once key players.
The Seahawks are playing their second consecutive road game, this one three time zones away. They better not take the Rat Birds lightly.
I think Seattle will let the location or the travel impact their level of play enough to allow Baltimore to Cover—Over the Total.

O/U OF THE WEEK 6 – 5 – 1
Washington Nates (5-7) @ Chicago Bears (5-7) -3.5 41 [O]
Ladies and gentlemen, your NFC East leading Washington Native Americans…
(Yawn)…(Laughter)…(More yawning)… (Token Applause)…
The Nates have put up a big fat ostrich egg in the 2015 road win column and Da Bears have only been victors in one home game.
I have nary a clue which team will welcome the fickle foot of fate into its ass—but I would bet each defense will score a touchdown along with two more by their capable, if shaky offenses.
Barring a missed PAT—anything is possible with these two teams—that shallow analysis compels me to take the Over.
We’ll split this ugly baby—the Nates squeak out a win, Da Bears Cover…

GAME OF THE WEEK 3 – 7 – 2
Pittsburgh Steelers(7-5) @ Cincinnati Bengals(10-2) 50 [U]
The playoffs start here, folks. The Steelers can read the scenarios just like their fans. Tiebreakers with the KCs, Buffalos, and the Jets of the NFL world do not favor the Black & Gold.
Their playoff participation, though, is assured if they win out, and greatly enhanced if Cincy collapses—not entirely impossible outcomes. But, the more likely scenario of a Wildcard spot for the Steelers begins with a victory today.
If I’m Mike Tomlin, I’m telling my guys this is the only game we have to worry about…”Our 11-2 record at PBS—doesn’t matter. Our opponents in the coming weeks—don’t matter…We lose this game, we lose the division and we will defend that banner with ferocity…That is all that matters to us right now.”
No matter how well the current edition of the Bengals have played under Marvin Lewis, they have not performed well under the bright lights or when it matters most. They know their best hope to taste post-season victory is to earn a bye and wrest the first spot from the Pats.
The Steelers won’t be the only one playing this one with ferocity.
To me, Big Ben weighs the dice in Pittsburgh’s favor. Dalton and Lewis have to show they can win a big one, not only in Week Fourteen, but in the Week 16 battle against Denver. Until they display the mettle of a champion, they won’t get the respect they’ve been seeking for the last 35 years.
I’m going with the Under only because these teams normally play a tight defensive battle.
Steelers 27 Bengals 20
