NFL Week 14 Thursday Night Pick & Analysis – FootballThursday, December 5, 2013 14:44
Pick and analysis of the 2013 NFL Week 14 Thursday night game.
NFL WEEK 14 THURSDAY
Houston Texans vs Jacksonville Jaguars +3 (43.5)
Despite the woeful records of this Thursday Nighter’s AFC South squads, the match up is still attractive to handicappers.
On one hand these are two of the worst teams the NFL has to offer, and both got here from very different places, while appearing to be headed in very different directions.
Some morons—including this poster—had the Texans at least heading to the Conference final:
What the hell happened?
Houston players may have started believing some of the preseason hype about taking the next step and the positive contribution Ed Reed would make. Arian Foster’s back became an issue, Gary Kubiak had a TIA, Reed’s body had taken enough punishment, and Wade Phillip’s defenders couldn’t pick up the slack for an offense that lost confidence in what everyone believed was a franchise quarterback in Matt Schaub.
Conversely, the Jags were supposed to stink; for the first eight games they weren’t a threat to any opponent. After the bye week, the offense went from horrific to showing some flashes under Chad Henne and the defense started making some timely stops.
The Jags have the look of a team starting to find itself under new GM Dave Caldwell and new head coach Gus Bradley.
The Texans look like an organization that has lost its way.
We’ll take the Jaguars and the points at home—and the over.
JAGUARS 24, TEXANS 22
