NFL Week 13 Thanksgiving Day Picks & Analysis – FootballThursday, November 28, 2013 6:56
Picks and analysis of the 2013 NFL Week 13 Thanksgiving Day games.
NFL WEEK 13
Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions –7 (50)
Big difference in this one; if Aaron Rodgers plays, Green Bay has to be the favorite even though the game is played in the Motor City.
Without Rodgers, Detroit becomes the superior scoring machine, and the game could get ugly early for the Green & Gold.
This game will be decided by Matt Flynn making plays Detroit’s porous defense just can’t stop.
People all over the country are calling for the Lions to romp all over the Pack—not this week…Two reasons—Mike McCarthy vs. Jim Schwartz…Matthew Stafford has been too inconsistent all year, and Detroit has lost too many games to teams they should have beaten.
The Lions should win this one, but the Pack covers—and take the under.
LIONS 24, PACKERS 20
Oakland Raiders @ Dallas Cowboys -9 (47.5)
The Cowboys are 28-16-1 all time on Thanksgiving; last year they lost to the Redskins.
This is a game Dallas has to win if they want themselves and anyone else to take them seriously as a playoff contender.
The Raiders pretty much stink because of a near decade long quarterback carousel that recently stopped to pick up Matt McCloin–a undrafted free agent from Penn State.
My first impulse was to think the ‘Boys will find a way to win by 10+ points—and then I remembered Dallas has the league’s worst defense and doesn’t deserve to be taken seriously.
I also would love to see Jerry Jones’s face fall apart if the Raiders can win outright. Unfortunately, I doubt the Raiders pull out a victory, but I’m pretty sure they will cover—the Over is my play here…
COWBOYS 30, RAIDAS 24
GAME OF THE WEEK
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens -3 (41)
Don’t look now, but all signs point to Ben Roethlisberger and Todd Haley coming to some kind of agreement as to how the Pittsburgh offense will function.
Translated, that means Haley will slack up on his ego and let Big Ben call the coach’s plays in the no-huddle.
The Steelers have won three in a row and looked better each week—of course, those wins came after Tom Brady lit up the once vaunted Pittsburgh defense for 610 yards—the most surrendered in 80 years by the Black & Gold.
The World Champion Rat Birds share the same 5-6 record as their hated rivals, mostly because Ray Rice just can’t find the holes like he used to do—and Joe Flacco is playing like he spends too much time counting the millions he landed in an offseason extension.
I’m thinking this game is going to break the mold of the field-goal fest these teams usually play. The Pittsburgh defense has regained it’s scoring touch, and I’m seeing a higher number than Vegas.
The Steelers sweep the Ravens.
STEELERS 27, RAVENS 24
