NFL Week 9 Thursday Night Pick & Analysis – FootballThursday, October 31, 2013 20:41
Pick and analysis of the 2013 NFL Week 9 Thursday night game.
NFL WEEK 9 THURSDAY
Cincinnati Bengals @ Miami Dolphins +3 (44)
It is time to seriously consider the following question:
Could 2013 be the year of the Tiger?
This space has given Marvin Lewis mostly negative vibes during the last five years. Coach Lewis has won four division titles in his 11 year tenure, is only three games over .500, and is 0 – 4 in the playoffs.
Not the stuff of legend, but the more he hangs around, the more likable Lewis becomes…sesilient, steadfast, and confident.
Probably because he has evolved, somewhat, from the sometimes double-edged label of “player’s coach” and from being derisively called “Warden” Lewis (due to his once self-defeating belief he could transform troubled, punk players into good citizens). Coach Lewis has transformed himself into a respected leader who has slowly changed one of the worst losing cultures in all of professional sports.
Critics still call Bengals owner Mike Brown cheap, but he and Lewis have disarmed those grenades with one of the best performances in at least two of the previous three NFL drafts.
In Miami, more evolving is required before the Dolphins can consider themselves reborn. They can absolutely win this game, but Ryan Tannehill is where Matt Dalton was two years ago.
Miami has dominated straight up against Cincy, but home field or the “home dog curse” doesn’t mean much for the inconsistent Fish.
This is the kind of game the Bengals must win if other people are going to seriously consider them a contender.
