Stenson Lands FedEx Cup Bonus
Henrik Stenson has claimed the FedEx Cup on the US PGA Tour following victory in the Tour Championship.
The Swede defied the sports betting odds to win the $10 million bonus, which helped him double his career earnings in one tournament.
After dropping outside of the world’s Top 200 players, Stenson has done incredibly well to be one of the top forces in the sport once again, and this weekend’s victory is reward for all the hard work he has put into is game.
An opening round of 64 on Thursday put the 37-year old in a clear advantage after 18 holes. He then stabilized that with a solid 66 on Friday.
The Open Championship runner-up ensured all four rounds were in the 60s with a 69 and 68, respectively on Saturday and Sunday.
Stenson has found his best form for the season at the right time of 2013. Second-place finishes at the Scottish Open and then at Muirfield were signs he was slowly getting to grips with his impressive game once again.
His win in the Deutsche Bank Championship helped him make the top five of the FedEX Cup going into the Tour Championship.
One possible future star in the sport is Jordan Spieth. He surprised the golf betting world by winning his maiden title in the John Deere Classic back in July in which he beat Zach Johnson and David Hearn in a playoff.
At one stage on Sunday, he got within one shot of Stenson but was unable to better the European’s aggregate score and had to settle for a tie for second place in Atlanta with Steve Stricker.
The lowest round of the week went the way of Webb Simpson with his 63, which helped him climb up to fourth in the final standings.
