NFL Week 2 Thursday Night Pick – FootballThursday, September 12, 2013 6:52
Pick and analysis of the 2013 NFL Week 2 Thursday night game.
THURSDAY NIGHT PICK
NEW YORK JETS @ NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS –13
UPSET SPECIAL 0 – 0 – 1
Two surprise performances from each of these bitter AFC rivals in week one.
The Patriots pulled out another close one against a perennially weaker division rival—but, in the process, showed several dents in their armor. New England failed to get a sack and their decimated receiving corps looked like a genuine problem for Tom Brady. Too bad for Bills fans, it didn’t stop Tommy Boy from marching right down the field to set up the winning field goal. A feat Brady has managed to do 36 times in the 4th quarter—that’s a sick number folks.
Turns out the New York Jets don’t suck as many pundits thought—at least in Week 1. Their young defensive line is promising, the Jets’ top three draft picks are making their presence felt, and Geno Smith has a lot more confidence than he should. The kid is what Mark Sanchez has never been—a leader.
Even if we can only dream about Rex Ryan cold-cocking Bill Belichick, the reality is the Jets are young, unproven, and unpredictable—but the Pats are hurting enough they may play a little conservative.
That doesn’t mean we have the Nostradamus balls to predict an outright upset, but it does mean the spread is too wide for New England to cover.
We’ll call this one our Week Two Upset Special only because we think the Pats will win by only 10 points.
PATRIOTS 27, JETS 17
