2012 NFL Week 3 Picks – FootballSunday, September 23, 2012 8:58
Game picks for the 2012 NFL season Week 3.
NFL Week 3
…If you thought I was rough on Tampa Bay head coach, Greg Schiano, read this love letter by Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports…
And I was kicking my self for failing to award Roger Goodell the first ever “Goodelli” Award–formerly know as the Golden Tampon Award–and giving it to Schiano.
What a jerk-off!
…Been too busy to detail my playoff predictions…Here they are as we head into week three as taken from my divisional previews:
- HOUSTON TEXANS 12 – 4
- SAN DIEGO CHARGERS 11 – 5
- NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 11-5
- CINCINATTI BENGALS 10 – 6
- PITTSBURGH STEELERS 10 – 6
- BALTIMORE RAVENS 9 – 7
I have the Ravens winning by a whisker at the Razor; while the Steelers prove too much for the Bengals.
In the divisional round, look for the Bolts to spank Pittsburgh and the Texans to throttle the Ravens in the Lone Star State.
The AFC Championship game is a classic and the Texans find their way to the Superdome for Super Bowl 47–and Norv Turner lives to coach another year.
- ATLANTA FALCONS 12 – 4
- ARIZONA CARDINALS 10 – 6
- GREEN BAY PACKERS 10 – 6
- NEW YORK GIANTS 10 – 6
- PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 10 – 6
- NEW ORLEANS SAINTS 10 – 6
Wild card weekend is a wild one as the Eagles upset the World Champs, while the Pack destroys the Saints.
The Eagles prove the Cardinals are a desert mirage and the Falcons avenge playoff losses to the Pack.
Championship Sunday in the NFC finds the Falcons edging the Eagles setting up a very Southern flavored Super Bowl in the Big Easy.
Houston wins its first championship since coming into the league ten years ago…
TEXANS 27, FALCONS 22
Week 3 Picks
After a putrid first week of picking against the spread, I bounced back to the farthest edge of respectability with a 9 – 5 – 2 Week 2.
After Week 2…14 – 16 – 2 = .466
You can add one more to the loss column as the Carolina Kittens hid from Big Blue in the Week 3 Thursday Nighter.
GAME OF THE WEEK 0 – 2
Patriots at Ravens
This is one of those pick ‘em games between two playoff bound teams–well coached, consistent and disciplined. The twist here is–albeit only two games into the season–the Pats are playing much better defense than they have in recent years and the Rat Birds’ defenders are showing signs of age like an unlucky Edgar Allen Poe character.
Still, the advantage has to go with the home team who knows it recently had the visitors beat with a Super Bowl berth on the line. You gotta figure revenge will win the day–but, I’ll be rooting for New England.
BALTIMORE 26, NEW ENGLAND 23
OVER/UNDER OF THE WEEK 1 – 0 – 1
Rams at Bears
I really love the over on this baby even though some significant trends favor the under. The Bears have more weapons on offense than they’ve had and play a lot better defense than the Native Americans who let the Big Horns steal one last week. I think the Bears win a wild one at Soldier Field.
CHICAGO 28, ST. LOUIS 20
LOCK OF THE WEEK 2 – 0
Chiefs at Saints
If I were betting my Specials with real money, I wouldn’t bet a LOW for Week 3–there isn’t a true Lock on the board..
I’m not buying that Steve Spagnulo’s defense is as bad as the Holy Men have played in the first two weeks, nor do I believe Drew Brees suddenly has forgotten how to protect the football. The Saints were beaten the last two weeks by the legs of Cam Newton and RGIII–I don’t think Matt Cassel has the arm to make New Orleans 0 – 3.
NEW ORLEANS 33, KANSAS CITY 17
UPSET SPECIAL 1 – 1
Bengals at Native Americans
Slim pickin’s on this Special, too. The questions are, will the Bengals prove me wrong about their prospects in the AFC North and will RGIII achieve a consistent level of performance that will make the Nate’s a legit contender for the postseason.
The answers…No and No–and Washington has put its best two defenders on IR–Adam Carriker and Brian Orapko. That’s going to make things a little easier for Andy Dalton and his gang.
This game should be a pick’em at best. I’ll take the Striped Cats and the field goal.
CINCINNATI 30, WASHINGTON 28
Per usual, my picks are in italic below…
