NFL Week 15 Saturday Night Pick and Analysis – FootballSaturday, December 17, 2011 14:45
Saturday night game pick for Week 15 of the 2011 NFL football season.
NFL Week 15 Saturday Notes & Pick
Every year I get sick of hearing about or seeing the Dallas Cowboys. Although I love watching Jerry Jones’s angry face splitting at the surgical seams, the Cowboys during the last 15 years have been no better than the Atlantas or Kansas Cities of the NFL world–yet they always receive the full complement of six prime-time games.
Yeah, yeah, I know, Dallas games often enjoy the highest TV ratings, and I know that is what spikes the NFL’s needle, but the delicious truth is that for the last 15 years the Cowboys stink worse than steer dung but are treated as NFL royalty.
Dallas is the NFL darling at Fox Sports, and along with that network the Cowboys and their nebby owner symbolize what is absurd and unjust about the American economic and political system.
- If you repeat the same lie over and over–hey, let’s call ourselves “America’s Team”–people start to believe it
- An effective marketing campaign can make bull shit smell like roast beef…
The least we can do is rub a handful of that odiferous dung in the Cowboys’ faces…In the last 15 years the Dallas Cowboys:
- Have won 10 or more games a season only five times. That places them third in the NFC East behind Philly and Big Blue.
- Have missed the playoffs eight times–only the Native Americans are worse in the NFC East.
- Dallas is 2 – 8 in playoff games; both wins were wildcard games. Those two playoff wins ties them with the Nates. The Eagles have ten postseason victories, the G-Men, six.
In fact, if you were asked to name two perennially inconsistent and mostly mediocre NFL franchises since 1996 and responded with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, no knowledgeable NFL fan could argue with you. Their records and the Cowboys’…
Jacksonville: 133 – 107
Tampa: 128 – 112
Dallas: 129 – 111
The Bucs’ 5 – 6 playoff record over the same timespan includes two conference championship games and a Super Bowl victory. The Jags lost two AFC Championship games.
The Cowboys haven’t sniffed a meaningful divisional round playoff game, least of all a championship game of any kind, in the last fifteen years.
America’s Team, my ass.
My smart readers are probably thinking, “That means Gairzo is going to pick the Bucs as the Upset Special…Wow is he gutsy.”
Who ever said my readers were smart, or that I was gutsy?
In fact, I’m taking the Cowboys as the…
Lock of the Week
Dallas should score at will against a beaten up and demoralized Tampa Bay club that hasn’t come close to fulfilling 2011 expectations.
That’s the trouble with very young football teams. If the players gain some confidence and win a few close games, they might manage ten wins and/or shuffle into the post-season. But, if they lose a few nail-biters, or suffer some key injuries–or spend a no OTA offseason tweeting each other last year’s headlines–they can go bad quicker than a frigid banana.
Cowboys 38, Buccaneers 13
