Tiger Woods Infographic
Tuesday, August 11, 2009 14:49Editor’s Note: Ken Aversano recently contacted me after finding Deep Into Sports via a Google search. I was really impressed by his Tiger Woods Infographic and invited him to write a guest article for DIS.
Ken’s Bio: Ken Aversano started ZipGolfer.com to provide golf coverage for those with a sense of humor. He’s no 4-handicap, that’s for sure, but he loves the game and gets out on the links whenever he’s not busy tweaking his website.
Watching Tiger best the Buick Open field last week, I couldn’t help but wonder about his dominance. Apparently, some folks aren’t even convinced he’s the best golfer of all time. Not me, though,
And I set out to prove it.
So I started browsing his historical results. First I checked out TigerWoods’ own site, saw some cool facts and a whole mess of PR, but it left me wanting more. So I headed over to the Wikipedia and, as always, found a ton of info. But I still couldn’t find what I wanted — a single, graphical representation of Tiger’s wins and losses, complete with video highlights, opponents that beat him, and Tiger’s winnings.
So I made my own. The result is the Tiger Woods Career Retrospective Infograhpic, originally posted on my site ZipGolfer.com.
Yeah, I know I went a bit overboard here, but I couldn’t help myself. Once I started uncovering nuggets of coolness from Tiger’s past, I just knew I had to put it all together.
For example, did you know that…
- Tiger’s most dominant spell was a seven month stretch from August of 2007 until March of 2008, when he won an incredible ten of eleven tournaments entered. He finished 2nd in his only loss.
- His longest dry spell? Thirteen tournaments, spanning nearly six months at the end of 1998. He got close a few times, but consistently came up short.
- Tiger lost to a woman! Twice! Donna Andrews (and Mike Hulbert) beat him in December of 1996, while Karrie Webb (and David Duval) beat him in August of 2000.
- Vijay Singh has beaten Tiger more than anyone else — 13 times, to edge runner-up Phil Mickelson (12 times).
- Thirty-six times, Tiger has won more than a million dollars in a single tournament. That works out to $62,500 per hour on the course! He’s won more than half a million another forty-seven times.
Check out the graphic if you want to know more. Or just keep your eyes glued to the PGA Championship next week and see for yourself.
