MLB.tv Historic Game Free Broadcasts
Sunday, April 19, 2009 10:59I’ve been a subscriber to the MLB Online audio package for several years. It’s only $14.95 for the year (as opposed to the $109.95/year for the video package), and for someone who lives out-of-market of his favorite team (such as myself), a convenient and inexpensive way to catch the games.
On Wednesday I tuned in to the Red Sox-Athletics game in the midst of Tim Wakefield’s no-hit bid. I was pleasantly surprised that because of Wake’s possible no-hitter, MLB.tv was broadcasting the video version of the game for free. I didn’t even need to login into my audio account; it was there for anyone to watch. I just wanted to give credit to Major League Baseball for acknowledging the importance of such a game and making it available as soon as they realized that history was potentially in the making. I hope that MLB continues with this course of action for future games of possible historical import–it’s a nice nod to the fans.
